The word Ayurveda is derived from the ancient Indian Sanskrit language and literally means "the knowledge of life". It is a complete diagnosis and therapy system and has a remarkable wealth of
empirical healing knowledge.
Ayurveda has been folk medicine in South Asia for over 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest naturopathic systems known to man. Ayurveda is steeped in salutogenic basic principles and
therefore surprisingly modern despite its age-old tradition: primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, as well as patient empowerment and self-efficacy play decisive roles.
The interest in exposing this traditional science from India to Europe, especially to Germany, was the initial motive to start working here. After living in Germany for more than 17 years, I feel that there is a growing interest towards traditional Indian medicine - Ayurveda.

Scientific studies & patient treatment with Ayurveda
Currently I work at the Institute for natural medicine, traditional Chinese and Indian medicine at Hospital Essen Mitte, Knappschafts hospital. The establishment is from Alfried Krupp of Bohlen and Halbach Foundation, Chair for natural medicine of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. At the Institute, I perform scientific studies with traditional Indian medicine / Ayurveda.

At the Institute for natural medicine, traditional Chinese and Indian medicine patients are treated with classical methods of Ayurveda. This includes phytotherapy and Panchakarma (purifying treatment). The Institute is one of the few Traditional Indian Medicine Hospitals in Germany were in-patient and out-patient facilities are provided.
Advanced training in traditional Indian medicine for doctors and therapists
This educational program is unique because the participants can study at the Ayurveda Medical College, Kerala, which is clinically and practically oriented. Experts give lessons in various subjects. In this way, the students can gain clinical experience directly with many experienced doctors and professors. This will help to deepen the knowledge acquired - both in the Ayurveda system, in practice and in special Kerala treatments. Registration is via our Ayurveda school.
The complete range of training courses is divided into three coordinated modules that are completed over a period of three years. All modules are individually university certified and are awarded by the University of Duisburg Essen or the Vaidyaratnam P. S. Varier University of Kottakkal.
